Mr. W.L. Ellis probably arrived in Texas during January 1836, having been born in Tennessee in about 1818. He enlisted in the Volunteer Auxiliary Corps at Nacogdoches January 14, 1836, and was a member of Captain James Gillaspie' s Company at the Battle of San Jacinto .
Willis Ellis died in Brazos County in September 1843, leaving his wife, Elizabeth Jane, and daughter, Mary Jane Ellis, who was married to Mr. James W. Millican in Brazos County.
The actual location of Mr. Ellis's grave is unknown at this time.
