JOHN W.B. McFARLANE came to Texas in January, 1836. He arrived at Velasco, January, 28, 1836 on the schooner PENNSYLVANIA, after being recruited in New Orleans for the army of Texas by Captain Amasa Turner. John was a member of Captain Richard Roman's Company at the Battle of San Jacinto .

In 1839, Mr. McFarlane became the clerk of the Probate Court in Refugio County. Then one year later he became the County Clerk, an office he held until his death in December of 1851. The location of his grave is unknown at this time.
