From Northampton Twp, Somerset Co., Pa. Husband of Julian; father of William and Emanuel.
Aged 41 yrs, 5 mos, 4 days. Member of Co. F, 142nd Reg. Pa. Reserves. Local preacher for 14 years. He carried his comrades' gear on the battlefield when they were too sick to carry it themselves. Died on the battlefield near Fredericksburg; Va; buried on the battlefield. Wife died one year previously; two little sons remain. (The Evangelical Messenger, 11 March 1863, p. 87)
