Gabriel Jr. was the last son of five, William, John, Cornelius and Henry, and five daughters, Peggy,Abia, Permelia, Judith and Ruth, born to Gabriel Sr. and Sarah Wing Horton.
Gabriel married Jane McBride Horton March 2,1837 in Allegany Co NY. Their marriage was blessed with a daughter, Mary J. and
five sons, Roger Sherman, Wilber, Ambrose A., Francis G., and Robert Arthur Horton. The children were all born in Illinois.
Prior to 1840 Gabriel and Jane moved to Winnebago Co IL where he became a very prosperous farmer.
When the Civil War broke out, their oldest son, Roger Sherman enlisted in the 8th Regiment IL Calvary, he died 08 Nov 1863 at Culpepper VA.
Sons, Ambrose and Arthur removed to IA where they both married, had several children, and prospered. Daughter, Mary, sons, Wilbur and Francis all died young.
