CITY PRISONER DIES OF INJURY

George Lawhorn Found Dead in Jail

His skull fractured under circumstances that are still being investigated, a man identified as George Lawhorn, about 55, Died early Friday in the City Jail, where he had been booked on a charge of drunkenness.
City Police arrested the man Friday afternoon in a Summers Street Hotel and booked him at the Jail. He was found dead there early Friday. Officers said the man had been released from Jail Thursday only a few hours before he was picked up again and charged with drunkenness for the second time in two Days.
Dr. C.F. Sayre, County Coroner said Death had been caused by a fractured skull, but added that he would withhold his formal verdict until he could perform an Autopsy.
Detective Sergeant L.B. Warren said he believed, from a partial investigation, that the man had fallen down a flight of stairs at a Downtown Hotel prior to his arrest. The Officer added, however, that he was investigating a report that he had been involved in a fight.
The body was taken to the Casto - Wilson Mortuary. Attendants there had not established positive identification of the man or discovered any survivors by Friday afternoon.
