Fremont W. "Monty" Merewether

Fremont W. "Monty" Merewether 91 passed away Saturday Sept. 29 2001 at his home in Ojai. Fremont moved to Ojai from Beaverton Ore. in 1994 to be close to his California family. He loved the beauty of Ojai and to him it was "heaven on earth."

Fremont was born in Portland Ore. in 1910 and graduated from Oregon State in Corvallas with a degree in forestry. He worked for the U.S. Department of Interior Bureau of Land Management as a lands and minerals officer in Colorado and at offices in Portland Ore. and Spokane Wash.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred Louise (nee Ransdell) in 1991 after 53 years of marriage.

Fremont is survived by his seven great-grandchildren; son and daughter-in-law Michael Lee and Loretta Merewether of Ventura and their children Lorrie Rutkowski Lee Anne Niroomand Aimee Reaves and Scott "Ted" Merewether; daughter Kathleen Marie Merewether of Kirkland Wash.; daughter Elizabeth Barooni of Denver Colo.; son Don McDaniel of Kirkland; and daughter Jean Louise Triner (husband Jim) of Cleveland Ohio.

Fremont was a gentle caring and loving man who was admired and loved by his family and those around him. He loved the beauty of nature good music and family. He will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held in Ojai at the end of October. Details will be announced later. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to any charity that supports children music or promotes peace.
