Brigham City - Dr. Arnold B. Gilbert, 85, passed away at his home with his loving companion by his side on December 20, 2013. Born on January 30, 1928 in Yost, Utah, Arnold was the eighth of eleven children born to Leon and Rosetta Gilbert. His family moved to Brigham City, Utah where he graduated from Box Elder High School in 1946. Following high school, he joined the army—serving in Korea and then went on a LDS mission to New Zealand. Later, Arnold received a bachelor degree from Utah State University, where he met his wife Janet Jones of Cedar City, Utah. They married in the St. George Temple in 1952. Arnold continued his education at the University of Utah where he obtained a medical degree and returned to Brigham City to practice medicine for 25 years.
Arnold was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; he had a strong testimony and served faithfully in many callings. Namely, he served as Stake President of the Brigham City South Stake and as a Regional Representative. Additionally, he fulfilled the call as President of the Ohio, Columbus Mission and President of the New Zealand Missionary Training Center. Arnold and Janet also served together for many years in the Ogden Temple.
Arnold dedicated his life to helping others make the most and best of their lives. His love, selflessness, and gentle care have touched many. We will dearly miss him and all of the good he brought into our lives through his extraordinary influence and Christ-like example.
Arnold was preceded in death by three grandchildren: Bronson Gilbert, Kathleen Jeppsen, and Sherilyn Jeppsen. He is survived by his wife, Janet, his four sons and two daughters: Steven Gilbert of Hurricane, Utah, JoAnn (Steven) Jeppsen of Mantua, Utah, Doug (Karen) Gilbert of Brigham City, Utah, David (Kristine) Gilbert of Providence, Utah, Janeen (Seth) Hall of Cedar City, Utah and Rodney (Melonie) Gilbert of Highland, Utah; 27 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; as well as one sister: Glenna (Max) Grunig of Orem, Utah.
