Louis S. Schlote was born 6/22/1812 in Gross Langen, Hanover Germany and died
1/31/1893 inWest Point, Cuming Co., Nebraska. His Obituary follows: Death of L.
S. Schlote, Died on Tuesday evening, January 31st, in the 81st year of his
existance, at his residence in West Point, of old age. The death of the old
veteran, Mr. Schlote, was sudden, having been sick but three days. Mr. Schlote
was a peaceful loyal American Citizen, having served in the late war in Company
C, 66th Illinois Sharpshooters. The funeral took place Thursday, the sermon
being preached by Rev. Mueller of the German Lutheran church and the remains
taken to the public cemetery for burial. Members of the G.A.R. of this city
accompanied the remains and performed the last sad rites. The deceased was born
in Gross Langen, Hanover, Germany, Aug. 12, 1812. He immigrated to this country
in 1845 and settled in Peru, Illinois. In 1862 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and
served till the close of the war. In 1870 he removed to this state and county
where he was a resident up to the time of his death. He was married three times
and had eighteen children. Five children survive him.
