US Congressman, Jurist. While a member of the New York State Assembly in 1820, he was elected to the US House of Representatives and served one term. Ruggles then went on to a distinguished career in the New York state judiciary. He was originally interred at Christ Church (Episcopal) Cemetery. In 1888 all the remains at this burying ground were removed to Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
