Walter West Dies Monday In Emporia

Walter West died about 6:30 o'clock Monday evening at his home in Emporia following a long illness.

The funeral services were held at 9:00 o'clock Wednesday morning at the sacred Heart Catholic Church after which interment was made in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Emporia.

For many years Mr. West lived in this city during the time he and his brother, Charles West, and their father (Asahel M. West) operated the lumber yard here. Later he and his brother engaged in the hardware business for a number of years here.

The Walter West family moved from this city to Emporia in 1912, which city had since been their home. Mr. West had for a good many years been a traveling salesman for a wholesale hardware company and had followed this work until last summer when the condition of his health made it necessary for him to discontinue active work. His death was caused by cancer. He had recently returned from the Mayo Brothers Hospital at Rochester, Minn., where he had undergone an examination.

Walter West was born May 30th 1877 at Hutchinson, Kansas. He was united in marriage to Miss Rose Daubs in Strong City in 1902. To this union three children were born, two of whom with his wife survive. The oldest daughter, Miss Vera West died in the spring of 1924. The other daughter is now Mrs. Seleck Warren and the son is Asahel West. Mr. West is also survived by his sister, Mrs. Hugh Finley, of this city; and two brothers who are Charles West and Frank West, both of Hartford, Kansas.

Walter West was a member of the Catholic Church and of the United Commercial Travelers and the Elks Lodge.

His death will bring sorrow to his many friends and former neighbors of this city who knew him so well during the years he lived here.

Relatives and friends who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. C. T. West and family, Mr. Frank West, of Hartford; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Stafford, of Colorado Springs; Mrs. W. J. Hatfield of Haven, Ks.; Mr. & Mrs ? of Kansas City, Ks; Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Daub, of Florence; Clayton Bloom and his mother and Mrs. Sam Rhey, of Hutchinson, Miss Ella Rettiger, Mrs. W. P.
