Choreographer, Motion Picture Director. He obtained an Academy Award (Oscar) for Best Director for his film "Cabaret" (1972). He also directed "All That Jazz" (1979), "Sweet Charity" (1969), "Lenny" (1974) and "Star 80" (1983). As an actor, he is best remembered for his films: "Kiss Me Kate" (1953), "My Sister Eileen" (1955) (in a wonderful duo with Tommy Rall), and "The Little Prince" (1974). He was married to actress-dancer Gwen Verdon from 1960 to his death in 1987. He collapsed with a heart attack before going on stage in his play "Sweet Charity" in the National Theatre of Washington.
