Mable E. Wilson, 100, passed away in Ormond Beach, on Friday, December 26, 2008. A service in her honor will be held Wednesday, December 31, 2008; 10:00 AM at the Daytona Chapel of the Lohman Funeral Home, 1423 Bellevue Ave, Daytona Beach. With the Rev. John Cole as celebrant. Interment will follow at Daytona Memorial Park.
Mable was born on July 19, 1908 in Harmony, West Virginia to Fulton and Stella (Gandee) Ferrell. She attended Marshall University in Huntington, W. Virginia and In 1927, she married Harold Wilson. Mrs. Wilson dedicated her talents as an elementary school teacher, principal and after moving to this area from Parksburg, W.VA in 1944 she became an entrepreneur building and operating the White Caps motel for many years as well as other business ventures before retiring in 1974.
After retiring she volunteered at Halifax Hospital and Tomoka Elementary School where she was awarded "Volunteer of the Year." She also was very active in the Garden Clubs and Holly Forest Women's Club. Mable enjoyed sewing, cooking, reading, traveling, crafts, and watching the Orlando Magic. Most of all she loved children and spending quality time with her family. She was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Harold; her brother; Ralph, in Ohio; two sisters, Reva McGrew in Tennessee and Ruby Kephart in Ohio. She had no children, but she made her home with Jack and Betty Surrette, her niece.
