Actor. Known as Hollywood's oldest working actor, he came to films in his late thirties, after extensive work on Broadway. He appeared in over 200 films, often playing a cowardly, shady or treacherous character. He is probably well remembered in "Bedlam" (1946), as 'Sidney Long', the scientist confined to a mental asylum for proposing the invention of motion pictures. In the 1970s he appeared on such sitcoms as "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," "The Bob Newhart Show" and "Rhoda." (bio by: MC)
