Raymond H. Charette Sr., 79, of New Bedford, died Friday, July 28, 2000, at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Cecile R. (Salvail) Charette. They were married 54 years.
A lifelong New Bedford resident, he was the son of the late Amedee and Elmire (Cormier) Charette. He was a communicant of St. Joseph-St. Therese Church and member of the League of the Sacred Heart of the church, where he was also a bingo worker.
Mr. Charette was the manager of the former Charette's Market and retired as manager of P&D Mini-Mart in 1985.
He was a decorated veteran having served during World War II with the 8th Air Force. He was a member of the Royal Travelers and was an avid baseball fan.
After retiring, he became the caretaker of his uncle, Maurice Charette.
Survivors include his widow; a daughter; a son; two sisters; a brother; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Ernest Charette.
His funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph-St. Therese Church, followed by interment at Pine Grove Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd.
