Son of Doshia Buchanan and the late Woodrow Wilson Buchanan.

Ralph said that his service in the military changed his life and remembering his fellow servicemen was important to him. That is one reason he became involved as a Find A Grave graver. The following information about his military service appeared in his hometown paper, the Morganton News Herald:

" Ralph served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Army 25th Infantry Division during the Vietnam War. He received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal Ribbon with Device, Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, two Overseas Bars, Air Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge and Bronze Star Medal with V Device."

He was a member of the Glen Alpine First Baptist Church and retired as a master planner with Rexnord, Inc.

He was a member of Find A Grave; member number 47009460.
