Jean Elizabeth Davis, 84, of the Wainwright area, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at her home.

She was the only daughter of Richard and Mary (Dalpiaz) McPeck. She was born at Flushing, Ohio, on March 30, 1926.
She attended school in a two-room schoolhouse through the 8th grade.
She was a member of St. Paul's Church, where she helped arrange flowers for the altar and sang in the young girls' choir.
In 1939, the family moved to Uhrichsville, Ohio. She graduated from the former Uhrichsville High School in 1943.

After graduation, she worked as a secretary for the War Department at Cleveland.
Later she returned home and worked as a timekeeper at the former American Vitrified Pipe Company.

On an arranged date, she met her future husband, Joe Davis. After a short courtship, they were married on June 30, 1945.
They lived in Uhrichsville until 1951, when they bought a farm near Wainwright where they lived the rest of their lives.

They were members of St. Therese Catholic Church where they helped provide funeral dinners for families of deceased Wainwright residents.
Jean arranged flowers for the altar and taught Catechism.

Jean was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

She was an avid book reader and a lifetime member of the Friends of the Library, Tuscarawas Branch, where she was known as the cookie lady because of the many cookies she baked and donated to raise funds for the library. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting and making cookies for family and friends.

Jean and Joe joined the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Dennison when St. Therese closed in 1995. Joe died on April 1, 2009.

According to Jean's wishes, there will be no calling hours.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Dennison with Father Anthony Lonzo officiating.

She will be buried beside her husband in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.

Smith), all of Wainwright; six grandchildren, Bryan Davis, Chad Davis, Ray Thomas, Lee (Jessica) Thomas, and Jim Thomas, all of Wainwright, and Brandy (Ralph Jr.) Smith of Sugarcreek; three great-grandsons; three step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandson completes the family.
