Stepson of Robert J. Polackwich, a prominent Tampa doctor. Worked on a salvage crew backed by Dr. Polackwich in the summer of 1987, that was searching for the rumored Czar's treasure aboard the RMS Republic, sunken off the coast of Massachusetts.

Richards and Polackwich were in a boating accident off Boca Grande, Florida, where their boat struck power lines. Richards died later from injuries sustained in the accident.

Jonathan and his stepfather were in a boating accident. Both died, however only the stepfather died at the site, outside Boca Grande, when the accident occurred. The person who created Jonathan's memorial thought that he also died at the site of the accident.
