He Was 86 Years of Age - Had Lived on Farm Eight Miles From Carthage for More Than 51 Years

John R. Moss, a resident of Jasper county more than 70 years and a veteran of the civil war, died at 1 o'clock yesterday morning at the Moss home, eight miles southeast of Carthage. Death was due to a complication of ailments. He had been in failing health for some time. He was 86 years old. He always had engaged in farming.

Born in Indiana, he came to this county when a boy and has resided here continuously ever since. He has lived on the one farm for more than half a century, it is said. Among the pioneer settlers of the county he was especially well known. During the civil war he was a soldier with the union forces.

The survivors are a wife and six children - John B. Moss, of Carl county, Arkansas, Mrs. Sarah Penure of Cartevelle, Mrs. Nancy Hoofnagle, Tom P. Moss and Mrs. Martha Greib, residing in the vicinity of the Moss home, and Mrs. Etta Wise of Wenatchee, Wash.

Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock this morning at the home. Rev. Frank Harmon of Pepsin, a pastor of the Christian church, will conduct the rites. Mrs. Moss was a member of the Christian church. Burial will be a the Center church cemetery.
