Valerie Fennel Aiken Boles- best known as the mysterious voodoo priestess "Minerva" in Berendt's novel "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," which is set in Savannah.

Since she reportedly was involved in black magic and shied away from direct contact with humans for fearing the risk of being hexed , I will leave her bio at this simple state.

BEAUFORT, SC - Valerie Fennell Boles 76, died Friday.

Survivors: son, Anthony Ray Fennell; siblings, Dorothy, Jeanette, Beverlyn, Sadie, Gertrude, Selena, Thelma, Allean, Herbert Lee, and 5 grandchildren. Wake: 7-8 p.m., Friday in the Chapel of the funeral home.

Funeral: 12 Noon Saturday at Deep Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Islandton, SC.

Burial: Jerusalem Cemetery, Cummings, SC.
