Mathematician. He is regarded as one of the most brilliant mathematicians of the 20th century. He won the American Mathematical Society's B˘cher Prize in 1964 for analysis. In 1966, he received the Fields Medal, considered the "Nobel Prize" of mathematics for logic. He also won the 1967 National Medal of Science and was an honorary foreign member of the London Mathematical Society. His study of Continuum Hypothesis, is considered to be the theory defining all ideas in mathematics. He was the Senior Professor of Mathematics at Stanford University, where he taught for four decades retiring in 2004. He died a rare lung disease.  (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
