RET. LTC. JEROME DONALD REED
Joe was born the second child of James and Ruby Reed. Early in his career in the U. S. Army, Joe was posted to Ft. Bliss, Texas where he pledged the Omega Psi Phi fraternity and was a lifetime member. He had a number of foreign and domestic postings. Joe retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1978 after 20 years of dedicated service. His military awards and decorations included a Bronze Star Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal and a Combat Infantry Badge. After the Army, Joe and his family moved to Cypress, Texas where he began a second career working with Region IV Education Service Center. He worked at Region IV for 16 years and during that time Joe was active with several charitable organizations. He served as a volunteer with the United Way and also volunteered as a mentor for kids as part of the Juvenile Court Volunteers of Harris County. He volunteered with the Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation and served as President for 6 years. Up until 2006, Joe worked with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) organization as a volunteer tax preparer. Jerome Donald Reed leaves behind to mourn his passing, his wife of 47 years, Wilma; a daughter and son-in-law, Deidre and Kenneth Trass of Bowie, Maryland; his sons and their spouses, LtCol. (USMC Ret.) James and Roxanne Reed of Norfolk, Virginia and Darrell and Rebecca Reed of Fulton, Maryland; five grandchildren, Sydney, Madeline, James III, Max and Shelby; his sisters Shirley Wrice and Gladys Allen of Houston, Texas; one beloved aunt, Ola Mae Maxie Fulton (Leroy) of Montgomery, Texas; one uncle, James Maxie of Houston, Texas; many nieces and nephews and a host of family members.
