HERBST, JOHN D., 65, of Jeffersontown, passed away November 11, 2012 at his residence.

He was a retired police officer for the old Louisville Police Department, St. Matthews Police Department and also retired from Security for the Kroger Company. He was a member of FOP Lodge No. 6 and a Kentucky Colonel. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam era.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, the former Brenda Mattingly Herbst; children, Shannon Johnson (Richard), Kristina Franklin (Mike), Vickie Neurath (Wesley) and Ricky Mattingly (Cheryl); grandchildren, Mason Herbst, Chase Johnson, Isabel Neurath, Tristan Neurath, Matthew Mattingly and Ashley Cundiff; and brother, Robert F. Herbst, II.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 1-8 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home Jeffersontown, 9318 Taylorsville Rd. There will be a FOP service at 7 p.m. with funeral service to follow.
