Bethel Jean Shay Hunt, age 81, of Lincoln, Missouri, passed away November 27, 2011 at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. She was born on December 16, 1929 the daughter of Forster & Gracie Layton Hendrix, in Boswell, Arkansas.

She grew up in Calico Rock, Arkansas and on June 5, 1949, she was united in marriage to Charles Shay. Following their marriage they made their home in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. This union was blessed by two sons and two daughters. They moved to Warsaw in the mid 1960's and later to Lincoln in the mid-1970's

She received her Bachelor's Degree in Education while in Arkansas, where she started her teaching career. She later received her Master's Degree from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri. She was an Elementary School teacher at the Warsaw North Elementary School for many years until her retirement in the mid 1990's.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, on May 22, 1996. In August of 2002 she was united in marriage to Robert (Bob) Hunt. They continued to make their home in Lincoln, Missouri.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lincoln where she used her teaching talents in her Sunday School classes.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, and one son, Alan Shay, who died in 1987.

She is survived by her husband, Bob Hunt of Lincoln, Missouri, one son, Brian Shay of Grain Valley, Missouri, two daughters, Jeannie Scott, of Blue Springs, Missouri, and Maura Shay of Australia, one granddaughter, four sisters, two brothers, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services for Bethel J. Shay Hunt will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Lincoln, Missouri with Rev. Ron Griffith, officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday evening, December 2, 2011, at the Davis-Miller Funeral Home in Lincoln, Missouri from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Lincoln Cemetery.
