ELLSWORTH - Patrick E. "Pat" Halcin, 58, died unexpectedly March 23, 2011.

Pat was born Sept. 23, 1952, in Minneapolis, Minn. He was raised in Ohio and loved the Buckeyes. After graduating from Fremont Ross High school in Fremont, Ohio, he attended Ohio University and later graduated from Northwestern Michigan College here in Traverse City.

On May 12, 1979, Pat married the love of his life, the former Kathy Hippensteel, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Together they have shared 32 wonderful years of companionship. Pat was Kathy's rock, best friend, and confidant. He was an excellent listener and had a unique sense of humor. Pat was a quiet man, and when he spoke, his words were always chosen carefully. In 1993, Pat and Kathy adopted their son, Cody. He completed their family and brought immense joy to Pat's life.

Patrick also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and being outdoors. He loved to go hiking, walk on the beach, and travel to Canada to fish. When Pat's son Cody was four years old, he and Kathy built their dream home together in Ellsworth.

For the past 30 years, Patrick was employed at Tom's Food Market in Acme, where he was currently the Bakery Manager. He was respected by all of his colleagues and friends for his dependability and kind nature. He was a good, solid friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to Kathy and Cody, Pat is survived by his father, Floyd Halcin; sisters, Kathy Mason and Nancy (Steve) Willis; sisters-in-law, Cindy (George) DeSha and Sandy (John) Stout; nieces and nephews, Cory (Amy) Mason, Sara (John) Siekierski, John Mason, Tremain Maddox, Dennis Maddox, April Pierce, Anna (Will) Sauter, and David Nickerson; as well as several other loving family members and friends.

Patrick was preceded in death by his mother, Betty (Hanson) Halcin.

Visitation for friends and family will be held Monday, March 28, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon Tuesday, March 29, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will take place at a later date.
