Egyptian Ruler. He was High Priest of Amun from 990 BC until 969 BC, during a period when the priesthood ruled over large parts of the country. Hr controlled Southern Egypt from his power base at Thebes, while the Pharaoh Amenemope ruled the North from the capital at Tanis. During his reign it was noticed that the royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings were being robbed, so he ordered the surviving mummies re-buried in a new tomb at Deir el Bahri. In doing so he preserved the remains of many important Pharaohs, including Ramses II. On his death his own mummy was placed in the same tomb, where it was discovered intact in 1881. His mummy is now located in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo.
