| Birth: | Sep. 11, 1901 West Finley Washington County Pennsylvania, USA | | Death: | Aug. 5, 1987 Houston Washington County Pennsylvania, USA | Son of George Andrew and L. May (McDaid) Atkinson , he was born in West Finley Twp, had one sister, Esther Lillian Atkinson , and a brother, George McDaid Atkinson. He married Rowene Fife in 1926, and they had five children, Elizabeth, Louise, David, Charlotte, and Jim, and had 15 grandchildren.
He worked most of his life at the Canonsburg Pottery, which has led to what my sister calls a family trait; she says you can tell an Atkinson because we turn over plates to see where they were made!
Pappap died in 1987 of a heart attack that probably killed him instantly. My dad found him, sitting on the edge of his bed, dressed for the day. Except for a weak heart, he had been healthy, just a couple days earlier he had delivered the Meals on Wheels to shut-in members of his church, and he had been preparing for a trip to visit my Aunt Louise. She quipped when she learned that Pappap was dead, "Daddy would do anything to get out of coming to visit me." We all use humor to help deal with the sad times.
I can't believe it's been more than 20 years since he left us.
