Henry Herbert Bowers Okemos Henry Herbert Bowers, the youngest son of Eloan John Bowers and Ruby Florence (Alwood) Bowers passed away suddenly on November 1, 2011. Hank was born on March 28, 1929 in Millet, Michigan and graduated from Eastern High School (1947) in Lansing, Michigan. Following three years in the US Navy, (stationed in the Panama Canal Zone) he returned to Lansing, Michigan. He was an avid sportsman and loved to hunt and fish with his brothers, sons, family members and buddies. Over a fifty year period he and his family "graduated" from an old Army tent to a beautiful hunting and fishing lodge in northern Michigan. He never missed a MSU Spartan game, or Indy 500 race, Tigers, or Lions on the radio, no matter if he was working in the garden or sitting on the beach. Hank and his wife Betsy were past Presidents of the Okemos High School Athletic Boosters Club, and active in the Okemos High School Teen Center while lending support to their three sons' high school activities over an eight year period. They never missed a home or away game during their sons' football, basketball, baseball, swimming and water polo careers. Hank was a 33rd degree Master Mason, past Mason of the Year, and past Worshipful Master of Okemos Lodge #252, where he and Betsy volunteered many hours of service over the years including the fund raising chicken dinners. They also volunteered for many years at the Meridian Township Police Department, as well as Bennett Woods' Elementary School helping first graders learn to read. Hank is survived by Elizabeth (Betsy) his loving wife of 62 years; sons, David (Kyle), Michael (Nancy), Scott (Laura); seven grand-children, and five great grand-children. He is also survived by his older brother, E.J. Bowers. He was predeceased by his older sisters, Dorothy (Leonard) and Marguerite (Morrissey), and older brother ,Cecil. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers please feel free to send memorials to the Masonic Lodge in Okemos or to a charity of your choice . Dad's warm heart and steadfast presence were a gift to all and his wife, sons, family and friends will miss him dearly.
