Until the age of 38, Emma Alzora Karr had remained single staying at home caring for her ailing father. Emma married John Benjamin "Jack" Howard on December 31, 1905. Emma at this late age was past child bearing years but helped Jack raise a daughter from his previous marriage. Mary Odessie "Dessie Howard died of influena/pneumonia in 1925. Jack & Emma missed having a child in the home. In August 1926 a nephew of Emma's (Althur R. Karr)'s wife Cora Mae McPheeters died leaving Althur to raise 4 young children on his own. Jack and Emma took in one of the children (Gladys Mae Karr) who at the time was just 5 years old. Jack & Emma raised Gladys for many years remaining close to her father & siblings. Emma passed away on January 15, 1942 from tuberculosis of the lung.--Charlotte Hamilton
