Arland O. Thorstad, lifetime resident of the Marion community, passed away at Fargo on June 16, 1976, at the age of 68. He was the son of Oliver and Tillie Thorstad, born at Marion February 13, 1908. He received his education in the Marion community, grew to manhood there and on February 28, 1928 was united in marriage to Evelyn Conrad at Albert Lea, Minn. Mrs. Thorstad died in 1974. Arland retired as an employee of the State Highway Dept. in February of 1974.
Survivors include two sons and two daughters, Eugene, West Fargo; Kenneth, Cannon Falls, Minn.; Mrs. Donald (Margaret) Pedersen, LaMoure; Mrs. William (Wilma) Shape, Minneapolis, and 11 grandchildren.,
Funeral services were held at the Marion Lutheran Church on June 19 with the Rev. David Almlie officiating. Mrs. Dean McInnes served as organist and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Hoekstra sang two selections.
The following served as pallbearers; Todd Shape, Mark Shape, Roger Thorstad, Michael Thorstad, Timothy Thorstad and Gregory Pedersen. Interment was in the Lakeview Cemetery at Marion with the Haugen Baldwin Funeral Home of LaMoure in charge of arrangements.
