Ensign A. P. Spencer, USNR, was designated Naval Aviator #8550 in 1941. Entered active service via the pre-war Aviaton Cadet (AVCAD) program.

Lt (J.G.) Spencer was declared missing on 01 May 1943 over the north Atlantic, while involved with flight operations as a pilot of a Lockheed PV-1 VENTURA (029911) patrol bomber assigned to HEDRON-7 of FAW-7. Spencer Road in Bernards Township, New Jersey, is named in his honor.
