Claude R. Phillips, Jr., 94, of Mount Dora, FL passed away Nov. 9th at his home with family at his side. He was a retired US Navy Captain who served in World War II as a fighter pilot flying off of seven aircraft carriers in the Pacific. He first taught aviation and then went into administration at Miami Dade Community College. He graduated from Bucknell University and FAU. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years: Beverley; son, Claude R. (Susan) Phillips, III, Kailua, HI; daughter, Susan (Jim) Himburg, Miami, FL; sister, Latisha Keating, Boothwyn, PA; grandchildren, Karlene (Ty) Whitney, Claude Ryan and Stephen; great grandchildren, Trip and Kailey. His first wife Sarah predeceased him. Memorial contributions may be sent to Cornerstone Hospice, Lake County (Blue Team) or Lake Humane Society. In lieu of local services, a military burial at sea is planned. Beyers Funeral Home, Umatilla, FL.
