George Cicero was the son of Joseph and Sarah Neel McGill Brandon. Sarah was the daughter of John and Mary Johnston McGill. He enlisted in the army of the Confederate States of America at Coosawhatchie SC John T. Kanapaux's Battery. He was paroled at Greensboro NC May 1, 1865. He married Sarah Pamela Glenn April 25, 1872.

Lafayette Light Artillery was formed in 1861 with about 60 officers and men. It first waa stationed at Fort Pickens Stono South Carolina, then was assigned to the Department of South Carolina, Georgia and Florida and was active in the Charleston area and in various locations in South Carolina. During February 1865 it tottaled 81 effectives and in April was attached to C. L. Stevenson's Division Army of Tennessee. Captain J. T. Kanapaux was in command.
