Union Civil War veteran and member of Eugene GAR Post 7. He served in Battery F, 3rd New York Light Artillery.
Battery F was recruited in Syracuse, NY and initially assigned to the defense of Washington D.C. Later in the war they supported the attacks on Morris Island and Fort Wagner in South Carolina. It is the assualt on Fort Wagner that is portrayed in the movie Glory.
