World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Whatcombe, England, he served as a Corporal in the 1st Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders, British Army. April 6, 1916, at Sanna-i-Yat, Mesopotamia, Corporal Ware was ordered to withdraw to a communication trench during the enemy advance. There he was one of the few men remaining unwounded, when he started transporting other wounded. He picked up wounded men for more than two hours and carried the last one some 200 yards to cover under enemy fire until he had brought him in safe. He was later killed in actions at the Persian Gulf. For most prestigious gallantry, he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross on September 6, 1916.
