Gordon graduated from Yale High School with the class of 1936. He entered the service June 13, 1941 and trained at Camp Polk, Louisiana; a camp in North Carolina; Camp Young, California; Camp Adair, Oregon; and Fort Leonardwood, Missouri. On October 23, 1944, in Peck, Michigan, while home on furlough, Gordon married Doris Marguerite Frostick. He was sent overseas in December of 1944 and went directly into action with the Seventh Army. Gordon was reported missing on February 22, 1945. His wife received a letter on April 10th from a member of the 111th Division telling her that Gordon had died from wounds in a German hospital where the soldier had helped care for him.
