She was named for her mother's sister Asenath Hudson Ridley, the wife of Thomas E. Ridley. Asenath was also the given name of her grandmother Asenath Reese Hudson. She was eight years old when her mother died. She and the others were reared up by their oldest sister Charlotte P. Mack, and by their Aunt Lydia Mack. In independence County, Arkansas, bear Batesville on 16 July 1866 at her home Asenath R. Mack and John Wesley Engels were married by Rev. Burwull Lee, a Methodist Minister, who had officiated at the marriage of James B. Mack and Susan A. Carter exactly ten years earlier. The Engels family moved to a farm in near Moorefield, Arkansas, where their descendants would live for three generations until 1962. Asenath Mack Engels died of pneumonia.
