MANSFIELD: Irene Lucille (Assenheimer) Flock, 78, passed away on Saturday May 14, 2011, at Crestwood Care Center in Shelby, OH after a ten year battle with Alzheimer's disease. A long time member of Peace Lutheran Church of Galion, Irene was born February 20, 1933, in Bucyrus, Ohio, daughter of the late Harold and Lucille (Leonberger) Assenheimer and infant sister Shirley. Irene graduated with honors from Mt. Zion High School. Irene and Richard Flock opened Young Fashions in Galion, a successful children's clothing store, in 1962. After closing the store in 1984, Irene joined United Ohio Insurance in Bucyrus, retiring in 1998. Irene loved to travel visiting Holland, Germany, Switzerland and Alaska while spending her winters in Florida. She is survived by her daughters, Dayne (Michael) Flock-Canavin of Highland Village, TX and Dawne (Jeffrey) Helvie of Lexington, OH; five grandchildren, Adam (Chandra) Clinger of Ashland, OH, Andrew (Heaven) Clinger of Galion, OH, Brinton, Sean and Kathleen Canavin all of Highland Village, TX; two great grandchildren, Caleb and Owen Clinger both of Ashland; a sister Louise Murphy of Leesburg, FL; a brother Charles (Shirley) Assenheimer of Bucyrus, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews. At Irene's request, her body was donated to The Ohio State University Division of Anatomy for medical research. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at a later date. Irene's family wishes to thank Crestwood Care Center and Southern Care Hospice who lovingly cared for her.
