He was a son of William C. and Rebecca Hadley Mills. He was a Quaker and Corporal in the Civil War. At the time of his death, he was survived by: the wife; son, Arthur Mills; daughter, Mrs. Earl Craven; brothers, Charles, A. H. (Richard), Oliver H., and Amos H. Mills. He and his brothers owned the Mooresville Carriage Works.
