David Houston was born May 15, 1802 in Giles County, Middle Tennessee, the ninth child of Archibald Houston and Rosanna Cunningham. During the mid-1820's David married Harriett Elizabeth Eleander, born July 14,1806 in Tennessee. Three of their children were born in Tennessee, Rebecca Jane, Archibald and Anthony Lambert.

David moved his young family to Texas in 1835, after receiving a grant for a league of land. David arrived in Texas at a time of great unrest, five more children were born after they arrived in Texas, Martha Ann, Amanda, Emily, Mary Frances and Robert.

By 1860, David and Harriet had settled in Houston County on the Lopez Tract. After David's death, Harriett spend her remaining years with her daughter. On the 1860 Houston County Slave Schedule, we find that David shows he owns 4 slaves, the oldest is a 40 year old female, the rest are children. He reports one slave house.
