Ed McConaughey, a life long resident of Wayne County and former mayor and postmaster of Allerton, died at a Clarinda hospital Tuesday, November 8, 1949.
He was the son of Thompson and Eliza Hall McConaughey, one of 13 children. He received his education in Pennsylvania and at the age of 16 he went with his brother to Kansas where he worked for 10 years. He then moved to a farm near Allerton. On January 25, 1893, he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Hall who preceded him in death June 3, 1947. He spent most of his life in or near Allerton except for 15 years he lived in California. He owned or was associated with several different businesses in his life time at Allerton. He served as postmaster for eight years and was mayor for several years at various times.
He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Benny McConauhey and Mrs. Bertha Thompson, both of Marion Center, Pennsylvania.
Interred Nov. 11, 1949.
