Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Pacific and Elizabeth (Campbell) Burke.
Joe spent his working career as a municipal assessor in Halifax as well as Lunenburg County, up until his retirement in 1992. He also served as a volunteer with Lunenburg Fire Protection, representing Corkum's Island.
Joseph is survived by his wife Mary Susan Burke, step-son Edward Driscoll ; Michigan, sisters Marion (Philippe) Crabbe; Ottawa, Mary Lucas, Betty Burke; Truro, brothers Earl ( Gerry); Toronto, Pacific (Margaret); Mississauga, Ont, Donald and Alan both of Halifax, Robie (Lucy); Brewster, New York.
Joe was predeceased by his sister Patricia Simmons, brothers Bill, Douglas and Jim.
Arrangements entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. A Memorial Service will take place at a later date.
