Mary Pickett, 91, died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at the Olivia White Hospice Home in Flagstaff.
Mrs. Pickett was born Feb. 20, 1918, in Joseph City, to Joseph Hartley Turley and Joanna "Josie" McLaws. Her grandparents were original pioneers to northern Arizona. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. As a youth, she attended Joseph City and Holbrook schools. She served as P.T.A. president and as a Sunday school teacher. She lived in Page for the past 30 years, where she was a library aide at Holbrook and Page high schools. She also served in the Family History Center. She enjoyed history, reading, sewing, writing poetry, collecting rocks and genealogy. Mrs. Pickett married Jack Roderick Pickett on Aug. 20, 1937, in Joseph City and was sealed on July 30, 1974, at the Provo Temple.
Mrs. Pickett is survived by her children JoAnn Mosier (Hershel), Andy (Linda), Jack (Lori), and Catherine Trudell (William); son in-law Mariano Sanchez; sister Nina Adair; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; children Joyce Sanchez, Charles and Mary Jane Pickett, who died in infancy; siblings Walter and Georgia; and, from her father's first marriage, siblings Harvey, Hartley, Goldie, Sarah and Rhea.
A service will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Joseph City, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will follow in the Joseph City Cemetery.
