Obie Kasinger, son of Tom Kasinger, was shot last Saturday evening at 5 p.m. by John Roberts, who lives near Prestonia, Mo., and died Saturday night at his home on Pigeon Creek, 6 miles north of Mountain Home. The killing occurred on the ford of Pigeon Creek at the foot of Dover hill. The evidence at the inquest, which was held Saturday morning by Coroner Foster, showed that John Roberts, Obie Kasinger and father Tom Kasinger met at the ford Saturday about 5 p.m. Roberts was going home from court. He had stopped at the Jim Baker place and eaten his dinner and got his gun and cartridges, which he had left there before going to town. The Kasingers were coming from a point further up the road. When they met at the ford, an argument was opened and a fight issued. Roberts hit Tom Kasinger over the arm with his gun, and then struck him again. It is supposed that Obie Kasinger reached for his pistol to defend his father and that Roberts shot him at that time. The shot took effect in the right thigh, severing one of the main arteries, and he bled to death. Sheriff Mooney arrived at the scene of the killing at once, then proceeded to the Roberts' home in Missouri. Roberts' wife open fired with a single shot shotgun and hit Sheriff Mooney with some B.B. shot at 100 yards. Mac Lowery was shot in the nose and several times in the hand, arm and hip. Sheriff Conkin of Ozark County, Mo., also helped our officers riddle the fortified cabin. Bullets flew for four hours. Roberts' wife was hurt so badly, she could not be removed from the cabin. Though wounded, they took Roberts to jail. Obie Kasinger was a man about 40 years old and left a family with many relatives. He was a good citizen and a kind husband. He was buried at the Reeds Grove Cemetery Sunday afternoon.
