Nettie was the daughter of Jesse and Emeline (Emma) Wheeler Jones. She and her twin sister, Nellie Mae Jones Swinebroad, were among twelve children, some of whom died at early ages. Her parents were among the first settlers in South Texas during the early 1800s. Nettie first married Oscar L. Wallace. Before the marriage ended in divorce, they had one daughter, Frances Genevieve. The 1930 census shows that Nettie was a school teacher in the public school system in San Antonio. Nettie later married Wilbur Goodyear.
