James W. McHugh

Normal- James W. McHugh, 68, of Normal, IL passed away at 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Heartland Manor Care in Normal after a valiant fight with cancer.

He was born on October 25, 1940 in Bloomington, IL a son of John Williston and Veryl McClure McHugh. He married Karen Sprehe on March 22, 1959 in El Paso, IL. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Terri (Steve) Spiak of Alburqurque, NM; Laura Pusateri of El Paso, IL; one sister, Marilyn Leenhouts of St. Petersburg, FL; ten grandchildren, David, Caitlin, Jim, Joe, Dianne, Stephen, Rachael, Sandi, Vincent, Christopher, great grandchildren, Dallas, Jordy, Giana, Jolena, Estephinita, and Courtney who were an important part of his life.

James was a graduate of ISU with a bachelor's degree in education. He was a junior high Science teacher in Washburn and later in Lexington. He also worked as an insurance and real estate agent. James was the owner and operator of "Old Fashioned Things" in El Paso.

He was an avid Cubs and Bears fan and a loyal ISU Redbird fan. He always followed the El Paso football team and enjoyed reading western novels.

Jim especially enjoyed his friends in the Panera coffee group and his classmates of 1958 who were very special to him.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2009 at the Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in El Paso. Rev. John Tymonko will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10-11:00 a.m. before the service at the funeral home. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the El Paso/Gridley Titans football team. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.ruestmanharrisfuneralhome.com.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Community Cancer Center, BroMenn Hospice, and Heartland Manor Care for the excellent care given to Jim.
