JOHN M. ASKIN, INGRAM BROKER TAKEN BY DEATH
John M. Askin, senior member of the J.M. & Co. brokers, and the last charter member of the Pittsburgh Stock Exchange, died yesterday at his home 1 Wheeler St., Ingram, after a short illness. He was 79. Born in Pittsburgh and a resident of Ingram for the past 48 years, Mr. Askin had been in failing health for several years, but had worked up until two days ago. He became a member of the local stock exchange in December 1895, and started into business for himself in 1907 after working for two local brokers. A member of the Ingram United Presbyterian Church, he served as superintendent of the Sunday school for 13 years and was a former trustee of the church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Meredith of Manchester, N.H.; a son, William T. Askin of Cleveland; a brother, Edwin A. Askin of Pittsburgh, and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Hershberger Funeral Home, 57 Station St., Crafton. Burial will be at Allegheny Cemetery, Penn Ave.
