The son of Robert Taylor, Will was born in Vermont before his Pa began his restless wandering across America, always searching for a new spot. Living in New Hamshire, Missouri and Illinois, Will was 17 when he was listed in the Union Army as a Corporal in the Illinois 48th Infantry. After the War, he married Maria Elizabeth Harwood Nov 14, 1866 in Hancock Co, Illinois. The wandering foot drew them to Nebraska, where his son Ed met his wife. His Pa, Robert, went off to buy up a homestead in young Oklahoma, and willed it to Will if he would come care for him in his old age. Will would, and did, joining him at Homestead, Oklahoma, where his Pa died in 1896. Will moved to the Oklahoma Panhandle to be near his son Ed, and bought up a piece of ground 1/4 mile wide and 1 mile long. He and "Riar" were living there, just east of present day Camp Gibson, when the winter pneumonia came calling, son Robert took them to his home to care for them, the sickness claimed his Maria. Thirteen days later, Will joined her. They thought--due to a broken heart. Both are buried on either side of a nice red Tombstone sent from Illinois. They rest in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, and lying just South of them are two of their great grand children, Charles Edward Forbes, and Lavon Forbes Grice. (by Carolyn Blackwelder)

Gravesite Details

Very good condition in a prairie grass cemetery, fenced and well mowed. Gated access, yet visited most often by deer.
