Mildred L. Armas, passed away on January 17, 2013 surrounded by her family. "Millie" was born in Muskogee, OK. Her early years were spent competing in sports and assisting on her family's farm. Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Frank J. Armas, and former husband, Carl W. Hamilton.
Millie enjoyed working on her daily crosswords, Sudoku puzzles and playing cards. She loved her Giants and 49ers and occasional trips to Reno.
Millie proved to be "the best grandmother ever" according to her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. She became a second Mom to her many nieces and nephews. She steadied her family with an encouraging word, and threatening with the "big stick" (if needed). "Bam" was always ready with a cookie or a fresh orange from the tree. She made things "all better".
Millie is survived by her three daughters: Carolyn Phillips, Pat (Carl) Harris and Diane (George) Pantell. Her siblings: Ellen (Phil) Johnson and Bill (Marilyn) Cartwright. Her Grandchildren: Scott (Parshy) Phillips, Shane (Julie) Harris, Arik Phillips, Jason (Sara) Fell, Adrianne Pantell, Lindsay (Kevin) Killips, Allison Pantell, Nick (Kim) Pantell and Alexander Phillips. Her Great Grandchildren: Hailey, Brooke, Dylan, Zoey, Desmond, Roman, Harrison, Palmer, Quinn, Rory and Lucy and her special German family: Astrid and Erwin Hattenberg. She is preceded in death by her parents, Rosie and Galey Cartwright and her six siblings.
Funeral services will be held on Jan. 22 at 11am at Higgins Funeral Chapel. Viewing Jan 21 from 5pm to 7pm. Interment at Queen of Heaven cemetery in Lafayette.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation be made in her honor to either The American Heart Association or Vitas Hospice of Contra Costa County.
