ST. MATTHEWS--Mr George M "Buck" Covington Jr., of 203 Brook Drive, St. Matthews, died Wednesday, February 4, 2004
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, February 8, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in St. Matthews with the Rev, James McGee officiating. Burial will be in Norway Cemetery following the service. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Mr. Covington was a son of the late George M and Addie Lou Phin Covington of Norway. He attended Clemson College. He was a decorated veteran of World War II, having served in the US Army in the European theater. He received the Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts, the French Jubilee of Liberty and numerous other distinctions. He was a retired farmer and civic leader. He was a past Master of Norway Masonic Lodge #237.
Survivors include six children, George M Covington III of Piedmont, J. "Danny" Covington of Norway, Colin W. Covington of Aiken, Michael D. Covington of Columbia, Cairen C Withington of Central and Sallie C. Till of Orangeburg; a sister, Faith C. Spigner of Lexington; a brother, T. A. "Tommy" Covington of Norway; 13 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 58 years,Inez D. Covington.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 7, from 7-9 p.m at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home in Orangeburg.
Memorials may be made to the Building Funds at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1808 Brodge Street, St. Matthews
