Ivan Dean DeVore(Buck), age 87 of Promise City, Iowa passed away Monday, January 3, 2011 at the Ottumwa Good Samaritan Health and Rehab Center in Ottumwa, Iowa.
Ivan was born on May 9th, 1923 on a farm northeast of Promise City to Charlie & Stella(Mosbey)DeVore. His childhood was spent helping his parents and grandparents on the farm. In 1943, he served his country in the army for 4 years. Eleven months of that time he spent in and out of the hospital for his injuries he received while serving in France. He came back to the farm and spent the rest of his life farming and trucking as a lime hauler. He loved doing both of them and did them both as long as his health woul permit. He spent two winters in Davenport working as a tool and die maker, but when spring came the farm called him back. After his dad passed away his mother asked him if he would come home and help her year round. The next spring he met the love of his life, Patricia Lowe. In the next two years, he built a house on the farm. They were married on March 3rd, 1962 and to this union two children- Tiena and Todd.
He was preceded in death by his parents-Charlie and Stella DeVore, in-laws- George and Lalah Lowe, son-Charles DeVore, daughter, Ruth Ann Devore, sister-Virginia Wilmot, sister-Carrie Hull, brother-Bernard DeVore, brother-Maurice(Col.)DeVore, brother-in-law-Roy Wilmot, brother-in-law-Roy Hull, brother-in-law-Charles McIntire, brother-in-law-Willie W.(Bill)Lowe, brother-in-law- R.M.Foltz, sister-in-law- Willidine Foltz. He is survived by his wife, Patricia DeVore of 48 years of marriage; daughter- Tiena Lewis and husband Mike Lewis of Seymour, Iowa; son- Todd DeVore and Wife Serenity of Mystic, Iowa, daughter-Shirley Jones and husband Bob Jones of Scottsdale, Arizona; Grandchildren: David & Gregory Lewis of Seymour, Kolton and Dylan DeVore of Mystic, Rich Hudson and wife Kia of Bristow, Mark Hudson, Lisa Jones, Val Funk and husband Chris of Bettendorf, Tracy Hidlebaugh and husband Mitch of Wilton, Iowa; sisters- Betty Peterson and husband Rex of Plano, Iowa, Dorothy McIntire of Des Moines, Iowa; brothers- Dale DeVore and wife-Mary Helen of Plano, Robert DeVore of Corydon; and a host of nieces, nephew and friends.
He was a member of the Corydon American Legion Post #68 for over fifty years where he was a past commander. He was also a member of the DAV and VWF. He served on the ASC, Jones and Confidence cemetery boards.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him for his friendliness and honesty.
Funeral services will be held at 2PM, Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Pastor Linda Reida officiating. Burial will follow at the Jones Cemetery in Wayne County Iowa with military sercices provided by the Corydon American Legion Post #68. A visitation will be held Friday at the Funeral Home with family present from 6-8 PM. A memorial has been established to Hospice of Central Iowa or the United Methodist Church in Seymour.
